The Chicago Cubs opened the day with a 4 game losing streak. The boys in blue didn’t waste any time taking out there frustrations on Antonio Senzatela when Anthony Rizzo hit a first-inning RBI double and Ben Zobrist smashed a three-run homer, all before the Cubs made the first out of the game.

Jake Arrieta looked good and was cruising along until the 5th inning. Arrieta loaded the bases and then walked in a runner after appearing to have a cut on his finger gave up a RBI Single before being pulled for CJ Edwards Jr. “It was a different game. When you have a lead like that, you don’t want to relinquish the lead,” said Maddon. “The best guy to get a strikeout there was CJ, period. That’s it.” Edwards gave up 2 more runs that would be charged back to Arrieta. He settled in after that and closed out the inning.
Going into the bottom of the 6th tied. Addison Russell hit a solo blast to make it 5-4 then Kyle Schwarber stepped up and crushed another solo shot. Miguel Montero also hit an insurance blast in the 8th to prevent the sweep and get the Cubs a victory they needed badly.
Next up for the Cubs is a 4 game set with the New York Mets at Citi Field starting Monday at 6:10 p.m. The Cubs will be starting righty John Lackey (4-6, 5.12 ERA). Lackey is 2-0 with a 2.14 ERA vs. the Mets in five career starts.
