CUBS WIN ON A MISTY NIGHT AT WRIGLEY!!

Written by Brett Parsons

CUBS WIN ON A MISTY NIGHT AT WRIGLEY!!MILLS & FRIENDS SHUTOUT THE REDS!! CUBS OPEN THE GAP TO 3 GAMES OVER THE REDS!! Another pitcher’s night as the wind was blowing in. Cubs needed another Professor like performance and Alec Mills granted their wish. Going 6 solid innings, only giving up a single thru 4 innings. He was locked in. Attacking the zone and got ahead in the count often with the fastball. Did a great job mixing up his pitches, keeping the Reds guessing.

Underwood replaced Mills in the 7th and walked the first batter, Akiyama. Got Garcia swingin’, and got Barnhart to hit into a DP to end the 7th. Tepera pitched a scoreless 8th and The Jeffress Express slammed the door in the 9th to earn his 6th save. First time since June 2018 that the Cubs win 2 in a row but don’t hit a HR. The offense was bleak, only 4 hits. Reds starter, Mahle, pitched very well. Striking out 10 Cubs. 2 of the 4 hits were triples that won the game. In the 2nd with 1 out, Schwarbs walked, Willie singled, and Kipnis goes down swinging. Mr. Clutch, Bote, does it again! He drills a liner over Castellanos for a 3 bagger scoring Schwarbs & Willie. The following inning, more of the same.

With 1 out, KB gets hit by the pitch right on the elbow. Usually, he wears a guard but for whatever reason he didn’t. He did stay in the game, but hope this doesn’t cause him to miss any time. Riz flied out to CF. Baez worked the count to 3-2 & hit the fastball to the RF corner for a triple scoring KB for the final run of the game. Billy Hamilton made his Cubs debut in the 7th playing CF. Happ moved over to LF replacing Schwarbs.

Tomorrow’s matchup will be pretty good. Ace vs Ace, Trevor Bauer vs Darvish II. In their last matchup Darvish won game 1 of the twin bill where Riz hit 2 HR’s off of Bauer. Game Time: 7:15pm CT.
