The Chicago Cubs today activated shortstop Addison Russell off of the 10-day disabled list. The club’s active roster now stands at 36 players.
Russell will be available for the Cubs this afternoon as they continue their three-game series against the St. Louis Cardinals at Wrigley Field.
The 23-year-old Russell was placed on the disabled list on August 4 due to a right foot strain and plantar fasciitis. He saw action in one rehab game with Triple-A Iowa on August 28, going 1-for-3 with a double, but had his assignment cut short after reaggravating his injury on August 30. With the Cubs this season, Russell is batting .241 (77-for-319) with 20 doubles, 10 homers and 36 RBI in 97 games.
