Be aware Chicago Cubs fans. If you are not in your seat by the time the “Wink” “Wink” self-proclaimed “Greatest Leadoff Hitter Ever” bats. You will have already missed something special. Since Manager Joe Maddon put Rizzo in the lead off spot he has caught fire. In the seven games he has led off Rizzo has smashed 3 Home Runs, one walk, on single one, double, and a bunt single. He has a 1.000 batting average and 1.000 OBP.

That is Historic. Not to mention he has been hit 12 times by pitches. Which also helps his team in a painful way when leading off. He has been the hottest hitter this season for the Chicago Cubs so getting an extra at bat is huge for the ball club. Not to mention he has a 14 game hitting streak going as well.

Now this article would not be complete if we did not also talk about the outstanding pitching of one Mike Montgomery (1-3 2.26 era). The Chicago Cubs are desperate for the back half of the starting line up to step and get hitters out consistently. Well they got it Tuesday night form Montgomery when he tossed a lights out 6 innings of baseball while only giving up 3 hits, 2 walks and striking out 4 batters. The left-hander Montgomery started the season in the bullpen, but his last three appearances have been as a starter. Due in large part to an injured Kyle Hendricks.
“I think it was just a great overall win for us, a great feeling all around,” Montgomery said. “It felt like a well-played ballgame, the bullpen came in and did a great job shutting it down. It’s a lot of fun when you can win like that.”
Carl Edwards Jr. and Pedro Strop both allowed two baserunners apiece but pitched out of jams and some stellar defense behind them. Justin Grimm came on in the had ninth in place for Wade Davis who pitched the night before and closed the door on the Padres. Next up for the Cubs is a 1:20 start on Wednesday with Eddie “The Eagle” Butler (3-2 4.41 ERA) vs Miguel Diaz (1-1 7.36 ERA).
