After last nights offensive slumber. Manager Joe Maddon threw caution to the wind and gave the lead off spot to Anthony “The Cornerstone” Rizzo. A days worth of opinions on the moves by Maddon gave Cubs fans fits today across social media and local Chicago radio. Most Cubs fans where just desperate to try anything like Maddon to earn a “W”. Rizzo came to the plate in the top of the first after taking one pitch. He hit the second pitch the Mets hurler Zach Wheeler over the fence in deep straight away center 462 feet. An inning later he walked with the bases loaded to drive home a run, then doubled home another run. Rizzo finished with 2 hits, 3 RBI and a walk. Not a bad debut at the top spot in the lineup. “Let’s go on a run now,” Rizzo said. “It would be great. Just keep winning. That’s it, no matter what, keep winning. This could be the start of something, but it’s only one game.”

With Rizzo leading the offensive charge his teammates got into the fun as well. Rookie Ian Happ hit his first career Grand Slam and the Cubs did not stop there with the newly found power surge. Heyward (6), Bryant (15) and Baez (10) also hit home runs. Mets starter Zach Wheeler (3-4) got only five outs while allowing eight runs on six hits and three walks in Tuesday’s blowout 14-3 loss to the Cubs.

Cubs starting pitcher Jon Lester continued to pitch well. He went 7 innings giving up 5 hits, 1 run, and striking out 10 batters along the way to earn his 150th win in the big leagues. “Personal stuff is always cool,” Lester said after striking out 10 in seven innings in coasting to a 14-3 win. “But at the end of the day, you play for the Cubs and want to win for the Cubs.” Cubs relievers Justin Grimm and Felix Pena came in and where able to put up zeros for the last 2 innings to lock down the “W”.
